Financial Controls for Non-Financial Managers and Supervisors
COURSE DESCRIPTION
The hierarchy of business language has been described as a triangle. The peak being top management and they speak financial or accounting language. The middle layer has to be bilingual and speak financial and operational specific language. The base of the triangle uses the base language and could benefit from knowledge of the financial language.
This course addresses the financial language for those who are not fluent. It will:
- Teach the financial language in laymen’s terms
- Familiarize one with the fundamental types of Accounting
- Financial Accounting
- Managerial Accounting
- Cost Accounting
- Introduce terms such as Burden rate, break even trends and others
- Introduce newer thoughts such as Cost of Quality, Total Quality Management
- Relate all of the above to Profitability
- Introduce the various forms of Quality and Profitability Improvement by discussing the several forms and the methods there proponents advocate
- Philip Crosby (Quality is free)
- Dr. Edwards Deming (The Deming way)
- Dr. J. M. Juran (Managerial Breakthrough)
- Six Sigma (An evolutionary method)
COURSE OBJECTIVE
To make the operations managers more effective in dealing with the budgets and intradepartmental accounting reports. To understand the true costs of the functions they manage to give them insight into how to solve their accounting problems.
