API Specification Q1 9th Edition

API’s Spec Q1 is the American Petroleum Institute’s Specification for Quality Programs for the Petroleum & Natural Gas Industry. Organizations seeking approval to use the API Monogram mark on their products must comply with the API Spec. Q1 and the applicable API product specification requirements. Companies that either manufacture products to API specifications, or provide industry services not covered by an API standard, can apply for API Spec Q1 Registration. API also offers a dual certification with the ISO 9001 Standard.

API Specification Q2 1st Edition

API’s Spec Q2 is the American Petroleum Institute’s Specification for Quality Management System Requirements for Service Supply Organization for the Petroleum and Natural Gas Industries; this standard defines the quality management system requirements for service supply organizations for the petroleum, and natural gas industries. It is intended to apply to the execution of services during exploration, development and production in the oil and gas industry. This includes activities involved in upstream oil and gas well construction, intervention, production, and abandonment; applies to activities associated with well servicing, equipment repair/maintenance, and inspection activities; also, specifies requirements of a quality management system for an organization to demonstrate its ability to consistently provide services that meet customer, legal, and other applicable requirements.

ISO 9001:2015

ISO 9001:2015 is the International Organization for Standardization’s standard for Quality Management Systems – Requirements. It is the base foundation for a quality management system (QMS) that is customer-oriented and fosters overall organizational performance improvement. It covers every aspect of an organization’s activities from identifying key processes, to establishing policies and objectives, to documentation requirements among many other topics. Organizations seeking certification of their system must comply with ISO 9001:2015. Organizations that are currently registered under ISO 9001:2008 have 3 years from the date of publication of the new ISO 9001:2015 (16 September 2015) to complete the transition.

ISO 14001

ISO 14001 is the International standard that defines a structured way to develop an Environmental Management System. It requires that an organization identify the ways it impacts the environment and establishes guidelines for the organization to prevent pollution, comply with regulations and continually improve its management systems that address the environment. Although it does not establish specific environmental performance criteria, it provides the framework to manage ongoing environmental performance. Compliance audits and internal management system audits are required annually by the standard. The standard was originally issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) in 1996. This standard requires compliance audits and internal management system audits annually.

OSHSAS 45001

OHSAS 18001, is the International standard that defines a structured way to develop an Occupational Health and Safety Management System. This is the standard for occupational health and safety that has been used worldwide for years. However, it is expected that by the end of 2016, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) will approve and issue ISO 45001, which will replace OHSAS 18001 as the accepted worldwide standard for occupational health and safety. OHSAS 18001 (and ISO 45001) both require that the organization address the risks to workers and establishes guidelines for the organization to manage occupational health and safety. Although it does not establish specific safety or health performance criteria, it provides the framework to manage ongoing safety and health performance. This standard requires compliance audits and internal management system audits annually.
